Eric T. Schneiderman Takes Oath Of Office To Become State’s 65th Attorney General

Eric T. Schneiderman took the oath of office today and became the state’s 65th Attorney General. Following meetings at the Attorney General’s office, Schneiderman was sworn in at an inauguration ceremony joined by Governor Andrew Cuomo, Lieutenant Governor Robert Duffy and Comptroller Thomas DiNapoli at the Governor’s Reception Room in the state Capitol. Attorney General Schneiderman's family, including his daughter and parents, as well as other close friends attended the ceremony.

"On this humbling day, I look forward to serving as the people's lawyer for all New Yorkers. By building upon the aggressive, but fair approach to law enforcement we've come to expect from this extraordinary office, my goal is to create the best public interest law firm in the country," said Attorney General Eric Schneiderman. "Now the business of governing begins. With New Yorkers united behind the need to clean up our government and straighten out our economy, we are presented with great opportunity. As Attorney General, my office’s abiding commitment is to restore New Yorkers’ faith in these central institutions, and get our state moving forward once again."

Attorney General Schneiderman will announce additional appointments to senior positions and details about his public swearing-in ceremony in the days ahead.
