A.G. Schneiderman, Rep. Serrano & NYPD Commissioner Bratton Make S.O.S. Initiative Announcement in NYC
March 3, 2014 | New York City
Attorney General Schneiderman was joined by Congressman José E. Serrano and NYPD Commissioner Bill Bratton in announcing new legislation, introduced by Congressman Serrano in the U.S. House of Representatives, that would require a "kill switch" on all smartphones, technology that would help deter thieves and end the violent epidemic of phone thefts. The Attorney General also announced that Commissioner Bratton has joined the Secure Our Smartphones (S.O.S.) Initiative, an international coalition urging the smartphone industry to implement meaningful solutions to stop this epidemic.
The announcement was made at an event in New York where Attorney General Schneiderman, Congressman Serrano and Commissioner Bratton were joined by Richard Aborn, President of the Citizens Crime Commission of New York City, and the family of Megan Boken, who was killed during a smartphone robbery in 2012.
